After a 2 hour rain delay, the Waterford Boys track athletes came out tonight and did what they were here to do at the Sun Prairie Sectional. Trever Buchanan (10) ran a new PR time of 4:35.73 in the 1600m run, falling just shy of qualifying for the state meet with a 4th place finish.
In the remaining 5 sectional events we were in, we qualified for the WIAA State Meet taking 1st place in 4 events and 2nd in one.  This was led by Carter Maffet (10) who again took 1st in both of his individual events, the 110 hurdles and the 200m dash.  Jack McCormick (12) had a strong finish to take 2nd place tonight in the 100m dash.  Bryce Ruland (10) again took 1st place with a throw of 171′ 0″ in the rain. The 4x100m relay team also took 1st place tonight in a tight race decided by thousandths of a second as the time of 43.65 is also listed for the 2nd place Sun Prairie team. The team of Noah White (9), Carter Maffet (11), and Sutton Keller (10)  was anchored by Jack McCormick (12) who again had his second outstanding finish of the night. Jack has been one of the strongest closers I’ve seen in a while. In both his 100m dash and his anchor leg of the 4x100m relay he had come from behind finishes

Our coaching staff was extremely pleased with our team finish as well as the number of sectional qualifiers that we had tonight.  We had a number of season PRs in the sprints, throws, and distance events.  Event winners included Analyiah Guardiola in the 100m dash and Lisa Busch in the discus.  We had a handful of double event qualifiers including seniors Rachel Roth and Isabelle Sheeley, and sophomores Analyiah Guadiola and Natalia Arteaga.  As the times come down and the distances increase, it’s exciting to watch the training investments that these ladies have made pay dividends. Thursday’s sectional meet at Sun Prairie will be quite the battle, but I have confidence that we are well prepared and will leave it all on the track.
