Nancy Smith started with Waterford Union High School District in 1993. She teaches Chemistry, Forensic Science and Chemistry 2. She is a 1992 graduate of UW- Whitewater and received her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University in 2004. She is a lifelong resident of the City of Racine where she attended Washington Park High School.

In addition to teaching at Waterford, she is the coordinator of the Mentor Teacher Program which helps and guides teachers new to the district and provides those teachers with a mentor teacher for their first year at Waterford. As part of this program she coordinates the process for license renewal for the initial educators, as they write their Professional Development Plans. She is also has been on the Professional Staff Development committee, the Academic Standards committee, Staff Handbook committee, Staff Evaluation Committee, Website committee, the Lesson Plan committee and the Educator Effectiveness Plan committee.

Mrs. Smith is committed to teaching her students but also is committed to teaching teachers. Not only does she plan monthly workshops for the first year teachers, she presents on Forensics and Chemistry at both State and National Science teachers conventions. She has also held summer workshops on forensics for middle school students. She is a Wisconsin Academic of Staff Development Lead Teacher, a Key Leader for the Wisconsin Science Network, a member of NSTA, WSST, WESLA, and on the board of directors for the National Mole Day Foundation. She is also a Milken Foundation National Educator and Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellow.

In her free time, she enjoys time with her husband, training her 2 dogs and 2 parrots. She is an active member of the Southeastern Wisconsin Bernese Mountain Dog Club and is the Secretary of the Greater Racine Avicultural Society. She is currently a member of the Junior League, a volunteer program for women that is based in Racine to improve the quality of life for Racine residents. In addition, she has recently completed the FBI Citizen Academy and is now a member of the Milwaukee FBI Citizen Academy Alumni group.
