Prom will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, beginning with the Grand March at 7:30 pm at the Waterford Union High School main gym, followed by the dance at the Cotton Exchange in Waterford. The theme for this year is Fly me to the Moon. Students must attend the grand march in order to attend prom. Admission of $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for student spectators will be charged for the Grand March. Doors for spectators open at 7:00 pm at Door 29 of the school.
Students attending prom must park only in the Upper Lot of the High School and enter the building through Door 38. Following the Grand March, the police will block traffic and escort students from the Upper Lot to the Cotton Exchange. All non-student automobiles attending the Grand March must park either in the teacher lot off Center Street near the Commons, or on the streets adjacent to the school. Only prom attendees will be allowed in the Upper Lot. Students are required to be drive safely and with caution during the police procession. When students arrive at their cars in the Upper Lot after the Grand March, please wait patiently for the police to direct traffic from the school to the Cotton Exchange. This will be a slow process, however it is for everyone’s safety.
Students attending prom must be in good standing in terms of attendance, academics and behavior. Students with teacher, office, or Saturday detentions must have all obligations fulfilled before purchasing tickets. You will not be allowed to buy tickets if you or your date owes outstanding detention time. If you acquire any detentions after your ticket is purchased, you must serve the detention before gaining entry to the Grand March or prom.
Students are required to remain at the Cotton Exchange until the end of the dance 11:00 pm. The only exception would be an extenuating circumstance where parents would come to pick up the student. If a student needs to go to their car during the dance to retrieve or drop off an item, they will be escorted by an administrator or police officer.
Students need to adhere to the dancing guidelines set by student council and administration (explained in further detail on next page). Students who do not follow dance guidelines may be dismissed from prom without a refund. Parents will be contacted and requested to pick up students.
Cost for the prom is $80.00 per couple or $40.00 for single. Tickets will be sold only to currently enrolled junior and senior students at Waterford Union High School and must be purchased by Thursday, May 11, 2023. Cash or check (payable to WUHS) accepted.
Any person attending the prom, whether enrolled at WUHS or attending with a WUHS student must follow all the rules set forth by the school. No escort may be 21 years of age or older as of May 13, 2023. The same regulations as followed by the school in relation to drinking, drugs and proper etiquette/conduct will be followed. Guests from other schools require an additional verification signature from the principal or associate principal of their school. A further requirement is that the parents, after reading this letter, sign the attached permission slip for the attendants of the Prom.
We sincerely hope that the evening will be one the prom-goers will fully enjoy, and that you, as a parent will help make it a success. Prom is fully chaperoned by staff of Waterford Union High School, with support from the Waterford Police Department.
